Red Thread is a fungal diseases found in grass. The appearance of red thread is a bleached out look with a pinky reddish hue. On closer examination you can see little red spikes coming off the tips off the shoot. It is sometimes found in more sandy soil gardens and can be treated by a good dose of nitrogen in a quality fertilizer. It will often appear when it is quite humid and although it doesn’t affect the roots of the grass in your lawn it may look unsightly for a while and if left untreated could spread. Regular lawn treatments along with good routine lawn maintenance will help to clear up the problem effectively. It is also important to avoid mowing the grass too closely, especially if your soil is sandy, as this can contribute to a lack of strength in the lawn which can allow diseases to attack.
