Lawns go through a quiet time in the winter months. If possible try to keep off the lawn as much as possible during this time, keeping foot fall to a minimum, especially when frosty. The lawns are not actively growing at this time of the year and therefore will not fully recover from any damage caused until the spring months. If there is a lot of debris on the lawns from fallen branches or even just leaves, it is best to try and clear these. Do not feed your lawn during the winter months as it may cause premature growth which will not withstand the harsh icy days and can actually kill off your lawn. Use the winter to plan for what you want to do in the spring. We are currently applying a moss killer to the lawns to keep the moss at bay and also harden turf in protection for the weather conditions. We begin scarifying and aerating in the new year. Don’t forget we now cover Crosby, Formby, Aughton, Ormskirk, Burscough, Southport as well as Chorley, Preston, Fylde and beyond.
